I’ve had this music stuck in my head all day! Do you like chips?

Do you like soap operas?

By John On November 11, 2008 · 8 Comments · In Beginner, Vocabulary

Today, let’s talk about TV!

There are many kinds of programs on TV:

  • drama
  • soap opera
  • comedy
  • documentary
  • current affairs

ACTIVITY:

1) What do these words mean? Write an explanation of each one, and if you can give some examples of some famous TV programs!

2) What kind of TV shows do you like to watch most? I like comedy. I hate soap operas!

A drama is a highly emotional film based on a serious subject, often about interpersonal relationships and with an unhappy ending. For example, A Beautiful Mind.

A soap opera is a melodrama. There are a lot of Brazilian films of this sort. As for me, I don’t watch them as I think they just chew up our valuable time.

A Comedy is a film for amusement with a satirical or humorous tone, usually with a happy ending, like Ace Ventura.

A documentary film is a film that employs documentation. There are a lot documentary films of war.

Current affairs are given in a news format, like the American Onion (although they give fake news).

I didn’t understand what a soap opera was, but with the comments of Anastasia, now I got a better idea.
I like comedy and drama, some examples could it be The simpsons and Grey’s Anatomy.
And I like documentaries, but I don’t watch them so often.

      Hi ml
“soap operas” are drama stories. They usually have stories about families or communities and what happens to them (good and bad things).
