HiJohn,
In the above sentence , is “my wife” third person?
English is my foreign language.I am damn confused about third person.
Can you please help me out from this.
Hi Hitch
First, second and third person are all different ways of writing a story, or narrative.
The first person is when you write from your own point of view: I, me, we, etc.
Example sentences: I like flowers.
The second person is when using: you and your etc.
Example sentence: You like flowers.
The third person is: he, she, they, their, his, hers, him, her, etc.
Example sentence: He likes flowers.
The phrase ‘my wife’ fits here. Example sentence: My wife likes flowers.
Notice the verb form: likes
So: ‘my wife’ is Third person.
Explanation:
‘My’ is used as an adjective to describe ‘wife’. The verb ‘like’ has an ‘s’ added and becomes ‘likes’.
The sentence: My wife likes photography.
Hope this helps!
Many thanks…
Welcome!
Objection: “My wife” is third person and the following verb takes an “s”.
My wife likes photography.
Hi Eva

Many thanks!
