Hi John
I watched “Sanshiro Sugata” with my 6 year-old son yesterday. He cackled at the scene of the battle many times .
As you said the main character, Sanshiro Sugata, has been a good performance in the film.
They say it was made in the midst of the World War II in 1943, which was a memorable debut for director Akira Kurosawa and that was a his undisputed great enjoyable piece of the work.
His debut work, “Sanshiro Sugata” is well respected as a synthesis of his gifts(talent) and painstaking work, meeting public’s expectation of what they really wanted to see under strong control of free speech in wartime.

I tried to explain this, hope you can understand this explanation above somehow.

Yes I know Tsutaya! I was a memeber there and rented movies there when I lived in Japan!! The Akira Kurosawa movie I was talking about was Sanshiro Sugata. It is a simple story, but i really liked the main character. He is simple, but honest and pure – I wish we could all be more like him!

Yes! Laputa is a great film. My husband’s favorite film, too. I’ve watched it several times. Is that one you saw recently,”????”?????????)? If it is, I’ll go and rent the video at TSUTAYA(???) near my house.

My favourite Miyazaki film is ‘laputa’ and Kurosawa is the famous 7 samurai.

I really like the story lines in the Kurosawa movies. Actually, compared to modern movies, his story lines are very very slow, but I like how his heroes behave. i saw a film of his recently where two judoka were enemies and had a fight. After the fight, one of the judoka then cooked dinner for the other one! I thought that was really cool! An honest, good hearted, human hero!

OH Yes!! I love his animations, too. Actually, my husband loves his works so much and recommended me to watch almost all since we got married. I should say “Spirited Away”,”The Borrower Arrietty” and?”Ponyo on the Cliff” from his recent animation works.
And the movie made by Kurosawa is also very famous and well know in Japan. Actually I’ve heard about the title of some of those but couldn’t have had a chance to watch it.The actor and actress in those golden days are awfully great, aren’t they?

Well, I’ve never seen the film either. Actually I am not interested in surfers anyway.
Although most of us might think that it’s a boring movie, why is that so many people went to see that movie in Australia?
There could be something interesting to other people.
I don’t want to take the trouble to go and rental the video at a video shop but had better to watch it for a experience.

Yes it is a strange film. Actually I didn’t like it. I found it very slow and boring.
