How to make friends and meet new people

By John On August 10, 2009 · 7 Comments · In Conversation, Culture

Today, let’s talk about how to make friends with native English speakers!

Recently, I interviewed a good friend of mine. I asked him how he made friends when he first moved to Australia. Watch the video below and see what he said!

Some places to meet friends:

  • At work
  • At school
  • Join a sports club
  • Join a social group, such as a church or youth group
  • Join a volunteer organisation

Remember: Go somewhere safe to make friends. Joining a sports club or a social group, such as a church or youth group is a great way to start!

Question: How do you meet new people?

Yes Mai, I think helping people is a great way to meet others!

Do you work in the temple or study there?

I used to be a teacher in the primary school but I resign from work.I don’t work nor study in the temple but I like to go to temple and do meditation. I try to follow the Buddha teaching to be good people and make my feeling peaceful and free. This is the first time for me to practice English via internet.I’m not good at computer. By the way I feel appreciate with your help and your English lesson. Thank you so much and million thanks,John.

      You are welcome Mai!

What kind of meditation do you do at the temple? Do you go everyday?

        Hi, John!
I’m rather busy these days. I have to prepare my lessons to teach students. Sometimes I want to have much time to finish my work but it’s nerver. If we work hard all the time, we will think about to have a lot of free time . To answer your question, I do mediatation by following the way of the Buddha by concentrating on my breathing:breathe in and out. It helps me feel calm and comfartable.

Hi Mai! You do sounds very busy! I hope all is ok!
I know what you mean. I also would love to have an extra ten hours each day so I can finish everything and then have time to relax!

Your meditation sounds relaxing! I hope that helps! how often do you do it?

If you’re looking for native English speakers online then I just made this website where you can say a little about yourself & give your Myspace/Facebook/MSN details so that you can meet new people? http://getsomemorefriends.blogspot.com/ – give it a try, perhaps? It’s all brand new so there’s nobody up yet, so be the first & get popular ;P
